Colin Scott is a biotechnologist who’s spent more than 25 years exploring how engineering enzymes and microbes can help solve some of our biggest environmental and industrial challenges. He’s currently the Chief Scientific Officer at Uluu and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Australia. At Uluu he is helping to improve processes that use carbon negative sugars to make biodegradable plastic replacements using microbial fermentation.
Previously, Colin held senior leadership roles at CSIRO, including as Director of the Synthetic Biology and Advanced Engineering Biology Future Science Platforms and the CSIRO Biofoundry. In these roles, he helped shape national research strategies that brought together scientists, engineers, and industry partners to develop new biotechnologies for cleaner and more circular production systems.
His research has led to innovations that have helped companies such as The Coca-Cola Company, Enzide Technologies, and Meat & Livestock Australia.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
