Clas Weber is a DECRA fellow and Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Western Australia and was until recently a Humboldt Fellow at Eberhard Karls University of Tubingen. Before joining UWA, Clas worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Oslo. He did his PhD at the Australian National University under the supervision of David Chalmers (chair), Frank Jackson, Jonathan Schaffer, and Daniel Nolan.
Clas' research is focused on foundational issues in the philosophy of language, the philosophy of mind, and metaphysics. In particular, he works on the nature of self-locating content in thought and language, and has proposed a novel theory of communication for self-locating content. Recently, his research has turned to the metaphysics of personal identity and the special role the first-person perspective plays in shaping our views of the self. His current project investigates the philosophical prospects of mind-uploading.
He also pursues an ongoing interdiscplinary research project on the economic effects of linguistic structures. The most recent paper in this project, Gendered Language and Gendered Violence, finds evidence that linguistic gender may have a signifcant effect on the prevalence of gendered domestic violence.
