Biography

I completed my PhD on coral growth mechanisms and coral paleothermometry in 2018. Since then, I have been working as a coral reef ecologist within the Marine Science Program at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions in Perth.

Research

Within DBCA's biodiversity and conservation science division, I undertake research and monitoring of ocean temperature and coral communities accross WA's state-wide network of marine parks to inform biodiversity conservation and management. My research investigates how coral reefs are changing in response to environmental change, with a particular focus on the impacts of climate change (ocean warming and marine heatwaves). In particular, I am interested in understanding the factors that influence coral bleaching responses, coral recruitment dynamics, coral growth mechanisms, and the overarching capacity of reefs to produce calcium carbonate at sustainable rates.
