Biography

Christina Shanley is a PhD candidate and casual teacher in the School of Social Sciences at UWA. She relocated to Perth from Victoria in 2022 to pursue a Master of Forensic Anthropology. Following completion, she  commenced a Doctor of Philosophy with the Centre for Forensic Anthropology, UWA. Christina is also the current Outreach Coordinator for the Centre for Forensic Anthropology. She enjoys facilitating workshops that give both young and old students the chance to become forensic anthropologists for the day, hoping to broaden their experiences and curiosity.

Research

Christina is in the second year of candidature of her PhD, which focuses on the paleopathological analysis of human skeletal remains from Hegra. In particular, her research involves looking for patterns of trauma, muscle markings (enthesopathies), and pathologies. Hegra is an understudied region in the Nabataean Kingdom, and thus her goal is to provide better insight into the quality of life of the Nabataean people who lived and died at Hegra around 100BC - 200AD.
