Biography

Dr. Christopher D. Townsend received the B.E. (2009) and Ph.D. (2013) degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Newcastle, Australia. Subsequently, he spent three years working at ABB Corporate Research, Sweden working on next-generation high-power converter technologies. Since then he has held various post-doctoral research positions including at the University of New South Wales, Australia, the University of Newcastle, Australia and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. In 2019, he joined the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering at the University of Western Australia as a Senior Lecturer. 

Dr. Townsend has authored more than 50 published technical papers and has been involved in several industrial projects and educational programs in the field of power electronics. His research interests include topologies and modulation strategies for multilevel converters applied in power systems, renewable energy integration and electric vehicle applications. Dr. Townsend is a member of the IEEE Power Electronics and Industrial Electronics Societies.
