Personal profile

Biography

In 2017, I completed my MSc in Evolutionary Biology at the University of Padova, Italy, with a thesis exploring how food supply variation affects parent-offspring and sibling interactions in wild lesser kestrels. In 2018, I undertook an Erasmus traineeship at the Experimental Station of Arid Zones in Almeria, Spain, where I collaborated on a research project led by Dr Jesús Avilés investigating the evolution of plumage coloration. Later that year, I began my PhD at the University of Western Australia, studying the effects of heat stress on cognition in wild southern pied babblers under the supervision of A/Prof Mandy Ridley. In 2022, I became a Research Associate at UWA, continuing to work on the Pied Babbler Research Project to determine the potential behavioural and fitness consequences of cognitive impairment due to heat. In 2024, I joined the University of Chester, UK, as a postdoctoral researcher, focusing on the behavioural responses of wild lesser horseshoe bats to anthropogenic stressors.

Research interests

My research interests lie in the field of behavioural ecology. I am particularly interested in using multidisciplinary approaches to investigate animal cognition, behaviour and fitness. The aim of my research is understanding how wild animals adapt to environmental changes and human pressures and apply this knowledge to inform management and conservation decisions. I also believe in science communication and its role in fostering a stronger connection between humans and nature.

Current projects

BATMAN: BAT Monitoring via novel Assays and smart Nano-electronics (2023-2026, Leverhulme Trust, RPG-2023-047).

Understanding the impact of heat stress on cognition in a changing world (2022-2025, Australian Research Council Discovery Project, DP220103823).
