Personal profile

Biography

I am a Lecturer in the Department of Sport Science, Exercise and Health in the School of Human Sciences. I received my PhD in health psychology from Curtin University in 2021, utilising mixed methods to apply health psychology theory to medication adherence. From 2021-2024 I was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Global Alliance for Mental Health and Sport (GAMeS) in the School of Psychology at the University of Wollongong. In this role, I led a national ARC project to develop mental health guidelines for community sport in Australia. I was also the Program Coordinator of the mental health promotion in sport program, Ahead of the Game, targeted at young men.

I am the current President of the Australasian Society for Behavioural Health and Medicine (ASBHM), with my term beginning in February 2024. I was previously the Peers Connect Representative (2019-2022) and the Secretary (2020-2022) of ASBHM. I am also the National (Australian) Delegate for the European Health Psychology Society (EHPS).

Currently, my main research areas are: mental health and well-being in sport, women’s health research (particularly with regards to sport, physical activity, and body image), and applying theory to predict health behaviours (e.g., medication adherence, and sport engagement).
