Biography

Brad is a Senior Research Officer in the UWA School of Agriculture and Environment and the Institute of Agriculture. His main research and technical expertise is in pasture legume breeding, agronomy, and ecology of pasture legumes.

Brad transferred to UWA in January 2019, after 20 years in the Department of Primary Industries Regional Development working as a senior technical officer. Brad has worked on many projects in the pasture sciences group providing specialised technical support including his initial role as the Deputy Curator of the Australian Trifolium Genetic Resource Centre (CLIMA), Perennial legumes for cropping systems (MLA), New Sub tropical grasses for southern Australia (MLA), Reliable establishment of non-traditional perennial pasture species (CRC Plant based management of dryland salinity), Productive, persistent tropical grasses for farming system (FFI) development of messina and its rhizobia for saline waterlogged environments, and a unincorporated Joint Venture between the Western Australian Agricultural Authority and Seed Force Ltd to develop subterranean clover cultivars.

Brad is currently working on the Annual Legume Breeding Australia (ALBA) that is a Joint Venture between UWA and the pasture seed company PGG Wrightson Seeds (Australia) Pty Ltd. ALBA aims to breed improved cultivars of annual pasture legumes for farmers in southern Australia and other international markets. Key species include subterranean clover (Trifolium subterraneum), balansa clover (T. michelianum), Persian clover (T. resupinatum) and arrowleaf clover (T. vesiculosum).
