Personal profile

Biography

Bingjie Song is a human geographer with a particular interest in regional and rural development in both Australia and China. She examines socio-economic transitions in agriculture and mining. Her research spans multifunctional agriculture, peri-urban transition, and workforce development in the mining industry in the context of the green transition and Industry 4.0.

In particular, her work focuses on how farmers, workforces, governments, and industry actors respond to changes driven by market reforms, net-zero targets, and rural demographic shifts, using mixed quantitative and qualitative methods.

Beyond academia, her research engages directly with stakeholders and informs practice. She has led an industry-funded project in the Bowen Basin, developed in conjunction with mining industry partners, local communities, and regional NGOs, examining how technological change reshapes job structures and skill demands in mining. She also collaborates on policy-relevant research in China, building on her expertise in multifunctional agriculture. She welcomes collaborative research with academic, industry, and policy partners.
