Biography

Dr Behzad Heidari is a dedicated Biomaterials Engineer with a strong vision for developing functional biomaterials tailored for biomedical applications. His expertise lies in the formulation, design, and optimisation of biopolymers and biomaterials to enhance biomedical products.

He pursued his PhD in Engineering at the University of Western Australia (UWA) and the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, focusing on novel polymeric biomaterials for tendon and ligament repair. His research not only contributed to scientific advancements but also prioritised industrial impact and commercialisation from the outset. As a result, his work led to a PCT patent, commercialisation funding, multiple awards and scholarships, and numerous high-impact peer-reviewed publications.

During his PhD, Dr Heidari collaborated with local MedTech/Biotech industries in Perth, including Orthocell, Liquim, and Marine Biomedical, to support their Research and Development.

He is currently working on novel antibiotic-laden bone substitutes through the WA Innovation Seed Fund grant at Centre for Orthopaedic Research at the School of Biomedical Science.
