Biography

Dr Azim Zahir teaches Political Science and International Relations at the University of Western Australia (UWA). He is also a Research Fellow with the Centre for Muslim States and Societies (UWA). Azim's research explores religion's place in politics and international relations with specific focus on religious nationalism, political violence, terrorism, and (de)democratisation. His research uses intersectional and discursive institutional approaches to study these issues. With a special focus on South Asia, Azim's current research also explores the ideational and religious aspects of the growing India-China rivalry in South Asia.

Azim received his PhD in Political Science and International Relations from UWA. He holds a BA in Politics and Philosophy (Flinders University) and Master of Human Rights with research focus on Islam and democratisation (the University of Sydney).
