Dr Haynes is a part-time Principal Research Fellow based at The Kids Research Institute Australia in Perth where she leads the epidemiology and early-stage (pre-symptomatic) type 1 diabetes research theme in the Children’s Diabetes Centre; and a part-time Research Associate with Life for a Child contributing to global efforts aimed at improving access to lifegiving diabetes treatment to children and young people living with type 1 diabetes in low-resource settings.
Her key research roles include leading an Australia-wide study investigating the use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) to stage and monitor children with early-stage type 1 diabetes, investigator in the Australia-wide Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity (ENDIA) pregnancy early-childhood type 1 at risk cohort study, the Australasian Type 1 Diabetes Immunotherapy Collaborative (ATIC), member of the Australian Early Type 1 diabetes working group convened by BreakthroughT1D Australia, and investigator in the BreakthroughT1D Global Centre of Excellence based in Perth.
Dr Haynes’ research encompasses a range of topics on the epidemiology, aetiology and natural history of childhood type 1 diabetes with an increasing focus in the rapidly evolving field of early-stage type 1 diabetes. She is a highly collaborative researcher committed to engaging and involving people with lived experience, to ensure she undertakes impactful research with outcomes relevant to delivering tangible positive benefits. Currently, her work aims to contribute novel data for developing strategies to predict, delay and/or prevent the progression of type 1 diabetes and building the evidence for equitable access to life-giving treatments for people living with type 1 diabetes in low- and middle-income countries.
