Biography

Dr Aron Chakera is a Renal Physician with an interest in immune function and host-pathogen interactions. He is co-lead for transplantation at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital one of the two kidney transplant units in Western Australia. He work on decoy cell screening for BK virus in transplant recipients has led to changes in clinical practice and significant cost savings and his current work on post-transplant diabetes has changed clinical care pathways within his unit. In addition to his clinical roles, in 2013 he established the Translational Renal Research Group, housed in the Harry Perkins Institute for Medical Research and in 2015 was appointed Director of Research for the Sir Charles Gairdner and Osborne Park Health Care Group. He is the custodian of the WA Renal Biobank. He has received over $6M in research funding and is the lead researcher on a number of sponsored and investigator-led clinical trials and his publications span discover science through clinical implementation and epidemiology.
