Personal profile

Biography

Arnold is a lecturer in coastal engineering and ARC Early Career Industry Fellow with 15 years of experience in coastal engineering research, education and consultancy. He uses a combination of laboratory, numerical modelling and field techniques to better understand and improve predictions of coastal physical processes (e.g. ocean waves, currents, sediment transport). Arnold is particularly interested in quantifying the capacity of marine habitats, as well as bio-engineered structures and other innovative solutions, in providing protection against coastal flooding and erosion.

Research interests

  • Coastal engineering
  • Coastal hydro-morphodynamic processes
  • Beach and dune erosion
  • Longterm coastal evolution
  • Natural and nature-based coastal protection
  • Bio-engineered shoreline protection
  • Coastal processes in and around marine habitats (e.g. mangroves, seagrass, shellfish reefs, salt marsh)
  • Physical and numerical modelling
