Biography

Arnold is a Lecturer in Coastal Engineering and ARC Early Career Industry Fellow with over 10 years of experience in physical and numerical modelling of coastal hydro- and morphodynamic processes. His research focuses on better understanding and improving predictions of coastal physical processes (e.g. ocean waves, currents, sediment transport), in particular along complex coastlines with marine habitats such as salt marshes, seagrass meadows, coral reefs and mangroves. In particular, Arnold is interested in quantifying the capacity of marine habitats as well as bio-engineered structures in providing protection against coastal hazards such as flooding and erosion.

Research interests

  • Coastal engineering and hydro-morphodynamics
  • Natural and nature-based coastal protection
  • Bio-engineered shoreline protection
  • Beach and dune erosion
  • Coastal processes in and around marine habitats (e.g. mangroves, seagrass, shellfish reefs, salt marsh)
  • Physical and numerical modelling
