Personal profile

Biography

I am an Educator and Researcher at the University of Western Australia Business School, where my work focuses on Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Managing Technology Ventures, and Commercialisation. In my work, I broadly engage with industry and innovative firms to integrate one-on-one experiences between students and real-world projects and their owners. This collaborative learning and hands-on problem-solving of real-world cases are critical for students preparing for their careers. I work by drawing on my business skills, knowledge, capability and academic learning.

Before my academic career, I worked professionally with International and Owner-Operated Hotel Companies and in International Private Membership Clubs. I gained experience at the property level, where I directed and managed business across multiple operational departments. As a corporate executive, I acquired further expertise in multi-property management, coordinated and executed management agreements with owners and financiers of hotel and club development, worked with operational teams during asset takeovers, and implemented strategies for new hotel acquisitions. This knowledge spans several destinations in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, including China, Taiwan, and Australia.

I received a Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Western Australia. My research focused on public policymaking, implementation, and policy practices for Western Australian Regional Tourism. The research had significant implications for the industry, suggesting that centralised policymaking systems, which were used to develop tourism strategies and practices, failed to meet the needs of tourism stakeholders in regional areas. Additionally, my findings emphasised the importance of considering multiple regional attributes when crafting effective regional tourism policies.
