Andrew Lu

Andrew Lu AM is a trusted legal adviser to the insurance industry, professionals and Government. He is also a deputy member of the WA Reproductive Technology Council, and a sessional member of the State Administrative Tribunal. He has mediated complex disputes, and represented hospitals and health practitioners in complaints and claims, disciplinary matters, accreditation, and at coronial inquests. As an advocate, he has appeared as counsel in trials and appeals in State and Federal courts including in the High Court of Australia. He is a Partner and Head of the national medical malpractice and health practice of HBA Legal (part of Crawford & Company), and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law.

Andrew is the author of over 70 book chapters and articles, is a health and medical law editor of Halsbury's Laws of Australia, the former head of professional development at the Law Society of Western Australia, and is noted as one of Australia's leading Health and Aged Care lawyers in Best Lawyers, and as a preeminent medical defence lawyer in Doyle's Guide. He won a 40 Under 40 Award in 2017, the Asian Australian Lawyers Association Diversity Leader Award 2019, Order of Australia Medal in 2008, and was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2021 Queen's Birthday Honours.
