Andrew's research interests are engineering innovation related to agricultural engineering and restoration ecology. He uses his strong foundation in kinematics, dynamics, vibration and mechanical design to develop innovative technologies. He is also a keen engineering educator and regarded as an excellent teacher.

Roles and responsibilities

As UWA's inaugural agricultural engineer, Andrew leads the engineering research and development of a number of research directions:
- mechanical targeted tillage devices for broad-acre cropping to help overcome reliance on herbicides.

- clover seed harvesting technolgoy

- developing solutions for the commercial rearing of black soldier flies

- native seed flaming and mechanisation technology that are changing how degraded lands are restored using native seeds.

- a number of projects with leading manufacturers of agricultural machinery

Industrial relevance

In his current role at UWA, Andrew regularly consults with leading industries to offer innovative design insights and to design, build and commission new machinery.
As part of his research activities at the University of Bologna, Andrew collaborated with diverse industries in Italy (ranging from the agricultural sector to automotive industry). He was also part of the Technical Working Group established to revise the OECD ROPS tractor codes.

Teaching overview

Andrew teaches the 5th year Capstone Mechanical Engineering Design units within the MPE programme at UWA.
He has taught dynamics and vibration units at UWA and taught mechanical engineering design at the University of Bologna (Italy).
