Biography
Dr Abi Young is an adjunct research fellow and sessional academic at UWA.
Awarded her PhD in 2024, her research examined Chinese diaspora politics and non-state transnational repression in the Australian context, exploring the implications in Australia's national security and relations with China. Her thesis has been adapted into a book, published by Routledge, titled, 'Chinese Diaspora Politics in Australia: Transnational Repression and Social Governance'.
Her current research interests involve authoritarianism, international migration, Chinese national security, and international security.
With almost a decade of experience, Abi has tutored for undergraduate and postgraduate units in Political Science and International Relations at both UWA and Curtin University, covering such courses as International Relations of East Asia, the Asia-Pacific, and China, International Security, Foundations of International Relations, and Geostrategy. Abi has coordinating and supervision experience for the Master of International Relations and National Security at Curtin.
