Biography

Dr Sebastien Allard is a senior researcher in the Industrial Biotechnology Group in the Industry Environments Program in CSIRO Land and Water and and Ajunct Research Fellow in the School of Engineering at UWA. He is a senior leader in the water, environment and energy sector. He developed and led high performing teams to deliver high quality outcomes for Government, Industries and the public of Western Australia. He has a well-established key relationship with internationally recognised peers and stakeholders.
Research topics of special interest have included: drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, water reuse, resource recovery, aquatic ecosystem protection, green energy, circular economy,  and sustainable industries. 
In his past position, he gained specific expertise in the chemistry of oxidants in water treatment, advanced oxidation processes (AOP), formation of disinfection by-products (DBPs) (kinetics, mechanisms and toxicity), degradation of micropollutants and pathogenic compounds, removal and reactivity of metals and natural organic matter (NOM), environmental photochemistry and photochemical processes for water treatment.
Currently, he develops innovative processes to recover ammonia as a resource from wastewater. The recovered ammonium can be used as green energy, i.e. as fuel or as an hydrogen carrier.
47 book chapters, refereed journal and conference articles, 43 non-refereed conference proceedings and 25 industry reports.
