Biography

Renee is a Senior Research Fellow who has been working in the cancer epidemiology field since 2011. Renee's research focuses on various aspects of occupational and cancer epidemiology, including the future burden of cancer from occupational and lifestyle exposures, prevalence of occupational exposures, and work hazards affecting migrant workers. 

Funding overview

Dr Renee Carey has been a chief investigator on 6 grants totalling over $2 million. All of these grants are related to her expertise in estimating prevalence of exposure to and calculating burden of disease from occupational and lifestyle factors. 

Engagement

Renee has worked with various bodies including trade unions, the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists, Cancer Councils, and the Lung Foundation to raise awareness of the issues around occupational exposure, and particularly exposure to silica. Her work has been instrumental in advocating for the recently announced ban on engineered stone.
