Dr. Wei Zhang is a Lecturer and early career researcher at the Graduate School of Education, University of Western Australia. With a background in educational leadership, policy studies, and teacher education, Dr. Zhang specialises in the intersection of school leadership, social justice, and culturally responsive practices. Her scholarly work explores the lived experiences of leaders from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, with a particular focus on gender, equity, and inclusion in educational leadership practices.
Dr. Zhang currently co-coordinates the Master of Teaching (Secondary) program, where she oversees student application. She teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, delivering units on educational leadership, assessment, and research methodology. Passionate about student success and academic integrity, she actively mentors students in action research, systematic literature reviews, and evidence-informed leadership practice.
Her currently research agenda includes a meta-aggregation systematic review on CLRD women in educational leaderhsip, as well as collaborative work on simulation-based leadership training. She has designed and delivered professional development workshops for educators both in Australia and internationally, and is deeply committed to bridging research, practice and policy in ways that foster ethical and inclusive school leadership.
Dr. Zhang brings to her academic work a practitioner's sensibility, an analytical mind, and a relational approach to leadership development. Her long-term goal is to contribute to policy and system reform that foregrounds diversity, relationality, and socially just leadership.
Dr. Zhang welcomes inquires from prospective Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students interested in exploring topics related to educational leadership, diversity, policy, and equity.
Wei Zhang's research interests primarily focus on contemporary understanding of the values of progressive education, educational leadership, diversity, social justice and equity, relationality and ethnic minority experience in leadership. Current project includes co-authoring of Emerald Academic book series on Teacher Education in China (with C.Cunningham).
