Biography

Adam Wittek is a Deputy Director of Intelligent Systems for Medicine Laboratory, Mechanical Engineering Programme Chair, and Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering at the University of Western Australia. His teaching includes mechanical engineering design (Analysis and Design of Machine Components MECH5502) and manufacturing (Materials and Manufacturing ENSC3002). His reearch includes computational biomechanics (surgical simulation, desease mechanisms and progression), biomedical engineering, impact injury analysis and prevention (including injury countermeasure design), and algorithms and methods of computational mechanics.

He joined the University of Western Australia as a Research Fellow in 2004. His professional career includes industry research positions in automotive R&Ds (Toyota Central Research and Development Laboratories, Japan in 2002-2004) and research organisations (Japan Automobile Research Institute, Japan in 1998-2002), CAE software manufacturing/development (internship as a software engineer at the ESI Group, France in 1997-1998), and occupational safety (research position at the Central Institute for Labour Protection, Warsaw, Poland in 1992-1994).

Adam Wittek’s qualifications are in computational biomechanics and injury prevention (PhD), mechanical and biomechanical engineering (MSc Eng), and aerospace engineering (technician). He received his PhD in Engineering (Teknologie Doktor) from Chalmers University of Technology (Gothenburg, Sweden) in 2000, and MSc (with distinction) in Applied Mechanics from the Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology (Warsaw, Poland) in 1992.
