Organisation profile

The UWA Centre for Agricultural Economics and Development (CAED) is a research centre housed within The UWA School of Agriculture & Environment (SAGE) that brings together all the agricultural economic research being conducted by Academics, Post Doctoral Fellows, and PhD candidates in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics. It is a leading Australian think tank for economic research and policy advice related to agriculture, agri-environmental management, agribusiness and food systems. It is the largest group of its kind in Australia, and also the most productive.  We work closely with colleagues within SAGE and The UWA Institute of Agriculture and collaborate with a large international network of experts from research, industry and government sectors.

CAED provides world-class economic research and advice on the biggest challenges facing agricultural and their impact on food systems, producers, the natural environment, and economic development.  We deliver independent, evidence-based information to enhance decision-making and the social, economic, and environmental sustainability and resilience of farming systems and food supply chain participants, in both developed and developing countries.  We use our capabilities in data collection, socio-economic analysis and interpretation to provide insight into adoption of new technologies, poverty and food security, climate change mitigation, decision making and prioritisation, and much more.

We participate in multidisciplinary national and international research projects funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC), Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs), Rural Research and Development Corporations (RDCs) as well as a range of other industry organisations.
