International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering

Description of impact

Representing Australia as the technical committee Nominated Member of Machine Learning and Big Data (TC309) of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) since 13 November 2018. I am also the Corresponding Member of three technical committees since 13 November 2018, namely the Numerical Methods in Geomechanics (TC103), Physical Modelling (TC104), and Slope Stability (208). The ISSMGE is the preeminent professional body that has 86 member societies worldwide representing 18,000 individual members including practising engineers, teachers, researchers, equipment designers and manufacturers. The society also has 23 corporate associates from industry, and carefully selects its core members from high calibre academics for disseminating knowledge and practice (e.g. organising international and regional conferences); establishing guidelines and technical recommendations (e.g. reviewing standards and codes of practice); and interacting with industry and overlapping groups (e.g. identifying organisations and deciding how to interact with them).
