Description

Channel 7, 27 Jan 2025 You're about to meet a Perth baby who's endured more than any child should ever have to. Cruz is just four months old and fighting a very rare and aggressive brain cancer, and this is where we can all help. As Cassidy Mosconi reports. His parents need our support to get him life saving treatment.

Admitted to hospital on Christmas Eve. The Kellys should have been preparing for their first Christmas as a family of three.

He was rushed in to have a CT scan really quickly, and that confirmed our worst nightmare.

At just four months old, Baby Cruz was diagnosed with a very rare brain cancer.  Cancers that occur in kids and more specifically in infants, typically under the age of three.

What started with vomiting, high fever and irregular behaviour ended with three brain surgeries in three weeks.

It's reflux. Maybe he's got a stomach bug and never. Do you ever think that it's a brain tumour?

Cruz is about to embark on his biggest battle yet. Seven months of chemotherapy here, then a trip to the US for treatment we can't get in Perth.

It's something that could happen. The only thing that's holding that back is limitations in funding and resources.

HRT is incredibly rare. Perth Children's Hospital doctors say Cruz is just the fifth West Australian child to receive a diagnosis.

The family have set up a GoFundMe page to help fund his recovery. It's going to be a long road ahead.

The only thing we can really do is, um, remain brave and not just for him, but for each other.
