Synergy Percussion perform Timber

Press/Media: Press / Media

Description

Michael Gordon's Timber is played by six percussionists on planks of wood. The timber comes from a regular hardware store but each piece is cut to a specific length for pitch and resonance.

Synergy Percussion have been a mainstay of the Australian contemporary music scene for over 40 years, and they'll be performing Timber this weekend. Louise Devenish is the Guest Artistic Director of Synergy for this project and speaks to Andrew Ford about the changing trends in repertoire of Australian percussion ensembles and how it's possible to get so many different sounds out of a 2x4 piece of wood.
