Study finds cheap water bottles pose contamination risk

Stainless steel and glass are the safest options for drink bottles, some plastics are OK, but the cheap, mass-produced supermarket water bottles should not be reused.

That is the analysis of a Perth scientist who has studied the range of bottles on offer and found advantages, disadvan-tages and contamination risks.

Professor Anas Ghadouani, who heads the University of WA’s water and environmental engineering team, backs food-grade stainless steel as an expensive but environmentally friendly and long-lasting option.
