Iceberg threatens penguins

Press/Media: Press / Media

Description

Tens of thousands of Antarctic penguin chicks could starve to death over the next few weeks as a massive iceberg blocks access to their ocean feeding grounds.
A 3000sq km iceberg, known as B15A, has isolated the tiny Adelie penguins as they prepare for a 180km round trip from Antarctica's Cape Royds in search of food.
The penguins -- the smallest in Antarctica -- are likely to use more energy on the journey than they can store in food.
