    DescriptionHEALTHstudy participants are
    needed for the second half of research
    into the characteristics
    and effects of diabetes in a semirural
    community such as Busselton.
    More than 300 Busselton
    residents have been tested and
    to reach a target of 500 participants
    the investigators are inviting
    anyone over the age of 18
    years and who has Type I or
    Type II diabetes to take part.
    Professor Timothy Davis has
    led the study which is based on
    the long-running Fremantle
    Diabetes Study.
    The study’s senior scientist
    Michael Hunter said the information
    collected could help in
    the planning of better health
    services to treat and manage the
    condition appropriately in
    towns such as Busselton.
    Volunteers will need to visit
    the Busselton Health Study testing
    centre and receive a free and
    comprehensive health examination
    including a physical assessment
    and staff will take fasti
    n g b l o o d a n d u r i n e
    measurements that are relevant
    to diabetes including plasma
    glucose, glycosylated haemoglobin
    and cholesterol profile.
