Australia's forgotten diplomat: William Roy Hodgson

Press/Media: Press / Media

Description

This year marks 75 years since the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Paris on December 10, 1948.

Among the small international committee who composed the declaration was an Australian, William Roy Hodgson.

A war veteran who was once shot (and reported dead) at Gallipoli, Hodgson would go on to play a key role in drafting one of the UN's most historic documents. But his unvarnished approach to diplomacy would see much of that legacy forgotten.
