Description
Prof. Ndomelele Ndiko Ludidi is the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences (FANS) at the University of Mpumalanga (UMP) with effect from 1 January 2024 and is an Extraordinary Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at the University of the Western Cape (1 April 2024 to 31 March 2027). He served as a Professor of Biotechnology at the University of the Western Cape in South Africa before joining UMP. He is an established researcher (NRF rating of C2, until Dec. 2025) with expertise in plant molecular biology, plant physiology and biochemistry. He has extensive university-level teaching experience in biochemistry, plant biotechnology and plant physiology.During his visit at UWA, I organised discussion meetings with a number of UWA researchers with common interests, held a public lecture via IOA (his talk title: Relevance of plant science research to resilience of food systems: Opportunities for UMP partnerships with UWA), visited Murdoch University via Professor Rajeev K Varshney, Director, State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre, Centre for Crop & Food Innovation, Food Futures Institute (include discussions with his group, lab tour, and presentation on "Capitalizing on opportunity crops for building a resilient food system". I also took him to visit UWA Growth Facility, Shenton Park Field Stations, and tours to Kings Park, Fremental, city, and beaches.
Professor Ludidi's visit to UWA enhances our collaborations, and strengthens our relationship with University of Mpumalanga, and University of the Western Cape.
