Impact Evaluation and Causal Inference for Agricultural and Environmental Interventions

Activity: Conferences and workshopsParticipation in workshop, seminar or course

Description

This training workshop is designed to provide an overview of impact evaluation methodologies and their application to agricultural and environmental interventions, with a heavy emphasis on applications to developing countries. Starting from a conceptual discussion of the difficulties in making causal statements about the impact of an intervention, it will then proceed with a discussion of the potential for experimental approaches to address issues of causal inference. It will then continue by discussing three quasi-experimental approaches to impact evaluation: difference-in-differences, propensity score matching and regression discontinuity designs (and its relation with instrumental variables). Facilitator: Dr. Paulo Santos (Monash University).
