Expert - Information and Communication Sciences (ICS)

Description

In April 2020, Australia’s learned academies established the National COVID-19 Expert Database, hosted by the Australian Academy of Science. The database is built by voluntary registration of experts across the nation, and serves as a key mechanism for allowing decision-makers in industry and government to easily contact those who have expressed their willingness to contribute to leading the nation’s road to recovery.
In the months since it was established, many of these experts have engaged in the response to the huge challenges posed by COVID-19 and we can see the evidence of Australian science in action across the many successes Australia has had in managing the response to the pandemic.
The Australian Academy of Science’s National Committee for Information and Communication Sciences has released an augmentation of this database that provides a more detailed breakdown of the capabilities in Australia in the information and communication sciences (ICS) and technologies (ICT).
Australia is very fortunate to have a critical mass of world-class research experts across the information and communications sciences, engineering and technology domain who are at the forefront of digitalisation critical to COVID-19 response and recovery. We hope this database will help identify and build effective and trans-disciplinary teams to address these challenges.
The ICS/ICT extension of the COVID-19 Expert Database is supported by the recommendations of Preparing for Australia’s digital future, a strategic plan released in 2019 by the Academy of Science and the Academy of Technology and Engineering.
