Description

Establishing the First FASD Diagnostic Service for Western Australia in partnership with the Department of Juvenile Justice. The FASTRACK clinic later FASD CARE was a social enterprise established in January 2016.

In the first quarter of 2016, referrals to Fastrack Clinical Services were initially received from CPFS and General practitioners. In May 2016 Fastrack began receiving referrals from Youth Justice Services. By the end of 2016 Fastrack had receive a total of 41 referrals in total. Family Support In support of the objective to provide multi-disciplinary case management and family support, Fastrack provided funding for Lisa Pedlar, Clinical Nurse Specialist Family Support to undertake training in the evidence-based Families Moving Forward program. The following is a summary of the program: FMF Introduction Families Moving Forward program is a positive parenting intervention scientifically validated and pre-dominantly caregiver focused, working predominantly with FASD clients. The FMF program assists the families in progressing in a positive direction, increasing care giver hope and optimism whilst reducing the chances of their child developing additional disabilities later in life. Our Clinical Nurse completed the 5-day training run by Dr Heather Carmichael-Olsen, Seattle Children’s Hospital and University of Washington and engage in at least 3 face-to-face clinical supervision sessions.

We completed advanced intergovernmental initiatives for the recognition and care of children and youth at risk of and living with FASD and neurocognitive impairment.
Review Panel for the NDIA (2015/2016) and Professional development day for child protection and family intervention staff 3/3/2016.
Invitation to participate in a FASD Consumer Movement -Strategic Guiding Group multi-sector reference group hosted by Developmental Disability Advocacy WA in
relation to the needs of consumers 3/3/2016, 7/04/2016.
Participation in the National FASD Clinical Network –meetings held by teleconference every 2 months

Hosted a two day workshop with the title “FASD and the Law” presented by international expert Neuropsychologist Dr Valerie McGinn. The workshop was advertised within the Department of Corrective Services and at the FASD Clinical Forum, Telethon Kids.

Established commercial relationships as a social enterprise and appropriate referral processes with Government agencies and others that will facilitate the assessment of children and youth under the age of 18 who are engaged with the Western Australian Police, the Department of Corrective Services, the Department of Child Protection and Family Services, the Children’s Court and others relevant to young people in contact with the youth justice system.

Went on to develop child developmental assessment capacity with clinical staff and nurses for Derbarl Yerrigan Aboriginal Health Services (DYAHS) and also gained exceptional permission to train nurses in the Griffiths III screening assessment tool at DYAHS in association with Curtin University
