The thesis produced new information about the Gondwanan geodynamic evolution of Western Australia by a detailed examination and interpretation of new U-Pb zircon age data from the Pinjarra Orogen. The analysis of the detrital sedimentary record of ancient river sediments (Tumblagooda Sandstone) produced new insights into the complexity of Paleozoic basin architecture and overall tectonic history. Furthermore, the thesis established a workflow to acquire, analyze and interpret grain shape parameters of detrital zircon in 2-0 and 3-0 in the context of their isotopic composition to constrain provenance bias and the effect of zircon transport in ancient and modern river systems.
